History
In
November of 1973 the Lowell Town Board held a meeting to discuss
renewing a contract with Superior Ambulance Service. Present at this
meeting were: Town board members, trustees from the three townships in
the area, concerned citizens of the community and members of the Lowell
Volunteer Fire Department. It was of the general consensus of all in
attendance to find a way to have an ambulance in the Town of Lowell to
service the entire Three Creek Area.
The
trustees of the three townships, West, Cedar, and Eagle formed the
Tri-Creek Ambulance Service Agency, Inc. a not for profit organization.
With the help of many service organizations and state grant money the
first ambulance was paid for and the operating expenses covered for the
remainder of 1974. The Lowell Lions club donated $8,000 to pay off the
first ambulance purchased. The Lowell Rotary Club took the
responsibility to raise the operating funds for 1974. The Lowell
Volunteer Fire Department, agreed to house the ambulance and personnel
at the fire station and would also provide E.M.T.'s to assist the
full-time employees with emergency calls on a volunteer basis.
Tri-Creek
E.M.S. officially began offering services on May 1, 1974 with two
full-time employees and fire department volunteers. The two-full time
employees were John A. Eskridge Jr. and Dwight J. Rench. After two
weeks of operation a third employee was added who was Kelly Burgess.
Tri-Creek
E.M.S. is under the direction of a board of 14 trustees who serve due
to their respective positions which are made up as follows: The West
Creek township trustee and advisory board, the Cedar Creek township
trustee and advisory board and the Eagle Creek township trustee and
advisory board. There is also an individual from the Lowell Town
Council and the Schneider Town Board. The Ambulance board has chosen to
elect an executive committee made up of the three elected trustees and
a chairman of that committee. The purpose of the committee is to
oversee the day-to-day operations of the service in conjunction with
the manager of the service.
We
currently have three fully equipped, advanced life support units. Two
are staffed 24/7, the third is for special events, coverage while a
primary ambulance is in the shop, and for use by on call personnel when
the two primary rigs are out on calls. Our medical control is with St.
Anthony's Hospital of Crown Point, Indiana. We strive to bring the most
advanced medical care and technology to the citizens of the Tri-Creek
area.
We have an excellent working relationship with the fire departments in
our service area; including Lowell, Lake Dalecarlia, Shelby and
Schneider and Hebron.
We
serve the largest area in all of Lake County Indiana.
